Nona France / Blue Creek Recreation Area
The
Blue Creek Recreation Area / Nona France Park, located on State Route 64
(Waterville Street) near the eastern edge of the Village, was once the location
of the Nona France Stone Quarry and consists of 80+ acres of land. The
Metropolitan Park District owns the land and it abuts the Blue Creek
Conservation Area, also owned by the Metroparks. The largest of the old stone
quarries is located on this property and provides beautiful scenery where many
different forms of wildlife can be spotted, including birds, butterflies, deer,
fox, raccoons, ducks, geese, etc.
Fishing IS ALLOWED from waters' edge only. No swimming or boating is allowed at the present time, but this is something that the Village is considering in the future.
There is a sledding hill located on the property where children of all ages can be seen enjoying the cold wintry days.
Plenty of wide open space encourages picnickers, practice fields for sports teams, and just plain lounging around! Bring a blanket, picnic lunch, and your camera for a great fun-filled day!
